Mock Bull Fight, DF, Mexico, 2009
I was walking through ‪Vivero‬ Coyoacan in DF and saw this older gentleman practice bull fighting with a few young men. They would take turns in pretending to be the bull and go through the motion of bull fighting. I was stuck by the grace and beauty of the movements, of the full extension of the articulation on the young man’s body.

Ketchup and Friends

I was in a small hole in the wall restaurant in Mexico grabbing a quick bit to eat. I don’t know what compelled me to take a photo of the ketchup bottle nor can I really put into words why I love this picture. There is something quiet, small, yet specific about the image that I return to it over and over again.

Storm and Ferris Wheels, Antigua, Guatemala, 2009
Antigua is surrounded by volcanos on three sides and the town was filled with colorful chicken buses and old ferris wheels. I found a sense of romance in these old ferris wheels and them set against the back drop of the volcanos.

This is the Bradbury building in Downtown Los Angeles where Blade Runner was filmed in. I was lucky to be granted permission to photograph in this architectural landmark build in 1893.

This was shot on Polarid T-55 (which it no longer available but I do have a private stash of it), a positive / negative film that is super sensitive to heat and scratched. Part of the emulsion often comes off when you pull the positive from the negatives which is what give you an interesting texture and element of unpredictability.

A Bit of Sweets, Oaxaca, Mexico, 2009

This picture always looks to me as if it should be the cover for a Lonely Planet Guide. What I particularly love is the unnatural angle her foot is resting at.

Inspired by Collect.Give, proceeds of one image out of every 10 posted on B-Side will benefit a charity.

Charity of choice: Change The Truth (CTT), started in 2007 by photographer Gloria Baker Feinstein, supports St. Mary Kevin Orphanage Motherhood in Uganda. CTT provides shelter, food, security, clothing, medicine, love, access to education and training in vocational skills to children from Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, Congo, Chad, and Niger. They have been abandoned, often abused and mistreated. Many of the children come from northern Uganda, where they have lost their families to war. Change The Truth provides hope and a future. For more information: www.changethetruth.org

Charlie’s Pledge: 100% of print sales. $5000 total if the edition sells out.
Limited Edition, 4x6in presented in a 11x14in 4-ply matt, Archival Pigment, Edition of 50

List Price: $100USD

If you there is a charity you would like to suggest for the next B-Side charity image, please email me.
